More National Heroes

I came up with two more National Heroes cards. First up Captain Canada Thomas Hickey. The second one is the rearguatd that has NHL expirence with the St. Louis Blues Alex Pietrangelo. Enjoy.

In the Spirit of Canada at the WJC

Today I was looking through my cards and I notice a card that I would like to make a custom of. It was the 2000 Upper Deck Vintage subset called National Heroes. I though I would make some cards of some of the guys who are on Canada's World Junior team and in the new 2008-09 Heroes and Prospects set that I will be sending to guys to sign. Any comments or critism is greatly appriciated. Look for more players to be added tonight.

Ted Lindsay - Hockey

Ted Lindsay is a Red Wings Legend. "Terrible Ted" as he was known played 17 seasons in the NHL from 1944-1965. He played 14 seasons with the Wings and 3 with the Blackhawks. He was part of "The Production Line" which was made up of Gordie Howe and Sid Abel and himself. He has 379 goals and 851 points in his career. Ted won 4 Stanley Cups and was selected to 9 All-Star games. He also won a Memorial Cup with the Oshawa Generals when he played junior hockey. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1966 and his #7 hangs from the rafters at the Joe Louis Arena. Mr. Lindsay was kind enough to sign the 5 cards I sent him and also included a signed pamphelet from the Canada Stamp that he was featured on. He signed everything in 48 days. Thank you so much Ted you are truly a class act.

Claude Giroux - Hockey

In today's mailbox was Claude Giroux a prospect for the Philadelphia Flyers. He now plays for the Philadelphia Phantoms of the AHL but formerly played for the Gatineau Olympic of the QMJHL. Claude scored 125 goals and over 300 points while playing in the Q. He was drafted by the Flyers in the 1st round 22nd overall in the 2006 draft after scoring 112 points in 63 games in his draft year. He was one of the most exposive players in the league and has 19 points in the AHL thus far this season. He made his NHL debut February 19, 2008 for the Flyers but has yet to score a point in the NHL. Claude was kind enough to sign 5 items for me 2 2007-08 H&P, 1 2006-07 H&P, 1 2008-09 Victory Rookie and 1 2006 draft card. Sadly the quality postal services managed to crease the Victory and the draft card. Thank you so much Claude and best of luck with your career.

John Negrin - Hockey

Yesterday I was able to acquire Calgary Flames prospect John Negrin's autograph. John plays defence for the Kootenay Ice of the WHL. He has 3 goals and 16 assists this season so far. He has tripled his goal total from last year. He had 41 assists last season and the Calgray Flames saw enough potential to draft him in the 3rd round 70th overall in teh 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He was able to represtent Canada in the World Under-18 Champioships where he got an assist on a game tying goal scored by Colton Gillies against the USA. John wass kind enough to sign 5 items for me, 2 ITG O Canada cards, 1 2007 Draft card and 2 blank index cards in 24 days. Thank so much John and best of luck.

Also a big congratulations to Cory Schneider who made his NHL debut November 29th. He lost the game 4-2 but had a strong showing against the Flames and displayed potential to become a good NHL g

On the Windsor Side

Skate with the Spits today which meant a lot of people waiting after the game so I didn't ask certain players as I could tell that they were pissed. Its understandable I wouldn't want 15 little kids grabbing me and yelling and screaming.

Here's how I did

Greg Nemisz 1/1 7th Inning card
Adam Walace 2/2 7th Inning and Tough Guys I also gave him a copy of each which he liked
Adam Henrique 3/3 1/1 2 Custom Team Set cards 1 Tix Card and 1 Draft 8x10
Andrew Engelage 2/2 Custom Team Set and tix card
Ron Soucie 2/2 Custom Team Set card and OHL ID team set
Rob Kwiet 1/1 Custom Team Set card
Eric Wellwood 1/1 Custom Team Set card
Harry Young 2/2 Custom Team Set card and OHL ID team set
Austin Watson 1/1 He changed his sig in a good way and his dad saw the card he signed and he wanted more of them and wanted to know where I got them and he was telling me where he sits and the next game he will be there so I could bring him some, which I will for sure.
Dale Mitchell 3/3 H&P 1 smudged its my 10, 11, 12 signed H&P of him.
Ryan Ellis 1/1 Magazine Cover
Justin Shugg 1/1 Tix Card
Conor O'Donnell 1/1 Game used Puck which he tossed to me after a game, Too bad the Silver Sharpie looks awful on it, I want to take it off and get it signed in blue.

On the Peterborogh Side

Here are my totals since the Petes side was packed with many family members of the players. The parents liked seeing the customs I made and always want to know where I get them. They usually make sure that Their son signs for me.

Coach Ken McRae 1/1 Index card
Tony Romano 3/3 2 7th Inning cards 1 Draft card
Sergei Korostin 2/2 1 7th Inning 1 Draft Card
Jason Missiaen 3/3 1 7th Inning 1 Draft Card 1 8x10 Man is he tall, he's 6'7" and I was talking to his dad who was only 5'10, he said he has no clue where the height comes from.
Zack Kassian 3/3 1 7th Inning 1 Tough Guys 1 8x10

Missed Yves Bastien, Ryan Daniels

A Win on Sunday

On Sunday I went down to Windsor Arena to see the Spitfires take on the Peterborough Petes in the second last game at The Barn. Petes star and hometown kid Zack Kassian came to town and had a great showing. He is said to be top 15 talent for this years draft. While he had a good game with a goal and a fight. His team played awful losing 5-2 to the Spitfires. There was 3 scraps in the game, first a very dissapointing bout between Kassian and Greenop when Kassian just went for the takedown. second round was up and coming fan favourite Adam Wallace vs. Jack Walchessen, where Wallace won after destroying him by landing a multitude of right hands. After the game I saw Jack and he had a golf ball size welt on his cheek. The last one was Harry Young versus Zach Harden, where Young got the win in this captain vs. captain bout. Harry was kicked out of the game for having tape on his hand though. It was a great game and nice to see Steve Gleeson get his first win at the old barn.
